Meet the DG...
District Governor Mike Powell
Theme: “Friends through Service”
Hi lions
I was born, bred and educated in Hawera, where my Wife Cristina and I were married and raised our two adult sons, one now in Auckland with the other in Christchurch. We relocated to New Plymouth some time ago when Cristina began work for NPDC as a Project Engineer.
I joined the Lions Club of Bell Block and Districts, when we arrived, as a way of meeting new people, and serving our new community and the world through this wonderful organisation.
My Father had been a member of The Hawera Lions Club, and as a child I was impressed with the projects they undertook to improve the district and its people, along with the close comradery that developed between the Lions families involved.
I have long been involved with community groups and particularly have enjoyed my Lions Journey, and I'm lucky to follow on as District Governor from a very talented line of PDG,s before me, placing 202D in great heart going forward.
I retired, or more correctly changed direction, this last Christmas and am eagerly using the extra time to best effect in my DG Year.
We have realistic goals to achieve this year, membership and service wise, to keep our District growing so we can deliver more service to our community, but I also want to focus on having
'fun' while doing so. "Friends Thru Service" is my theme for this year. Put simply this means more members doing more service while making more friends.
I am very proud to be District Governor of 202D, and will do everything I can to progress our wonderful District, continuing to serve all our communities
Yours in Lionism
Mike Powell
